RE: Redelegation of Authority - Write Off Bad Debts

The authority delegated to Chancellors in presidential delegation of authority DA 2007, dated December 22, 1993 [superseded by DA 2196, January 24, 2008], to write off bad debts is redelegated to the Vice Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor-Administrative and Business Services for all Irvine campus accounts and to the Director, UCI Medical Center and the Deputy Director, Business Affairs, UCI Medical Center for all hospital accounts, subject to the availability of reserves, specific income, or an appropriation for that purpose. This authority includes the authority to approve professional fee write-offs. In addition, the authority to approve professional fee write-offs for College of Medicine Accounts is delegated to the Dean, College of Medicine.

The Vice Chancellor-Administrative and Business Services and the Director, UCI Medical Center, only, may redelegate this authority for bad debt and professional fee write-offs under $25,000 to one deputy administrator. The Dean, College of Medicine, may redelegate the authority for professional fee write-offs under $25,000 to one deputy administrator.

The Vice Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor-Administrative and Business Services are delegated the authority to assign uncollectible National Defense/Perkins Federal Student Loans to the federal government up to $20,000 each on the recommendation of the Director, Financial Services. This authority may not be redelegated further.

This delegation of authority supersedes Chancellor Wilkening's July 21, 1995 delegation on the same subject (IDA089).
