DEAN
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

RE: Redelegation of Authority - Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series

Authority for academic personnel actions was delegated to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor by the Chancellor in delegation of authority, IDA 517, dated June 19, 2012. I am redelegating authority to you for the following within policy actions:

  • Appointment of Health Sciences Clinical Instructors
  • Appointment of Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professors
  • Appointment of Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professors
  • Appointment of Health Sciences Clinical Professors

All appointments will be made following an approved search.

  • Appointment of Clinical Observers (Research Associates).

These appointments are designated "without salary," therefore an approved search is not required.

I am also redelegating to you the authority to approve merit increases including all accelerations for academic appointees in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. This redelegation includes midcareer appraisals and reappointment without merit:

Health Sciences Clinical Instructor: Reappointment for second year
Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor: Step I to Step II
Step II to Step III
Step III to Step IV
Step IV to Step V
Step V to Step VI
Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor: Step I to Step II
Step II to Step III
Step III to Step IV
Step IV to Step V
Health Sciences Clinical Professor: Step I to Step II
Step II to Step III
Step III to Step IV
Step IV to Step V

Step VI to Step VII
Step VII to Step VIII
Step VIII to Step IX

Note: If the Department proposes a reappointment only, then the Dean has the delegated authority to decide for, or against, it. A Dean's decision not to grant a merit increase would result in a delegated decision for Reappointment.

Actions for appointees in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series that will continue to require approval by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor or a designee are the following:

  • All promotions
  • Advancement to Health Sciences Clinical Professor, Step VI
  • Advancement to Above Scale and/or Above Scale Merits
  • Five Year Reviews
  • All exceptions to policy and any other actions not specifically included in this redelegation.

All appointments and merits approvals must be consistent with current systemwide and local policies.

These authorities may be further redelegated only to the Senior Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, School of Medicine.

This delegation of authority supersedes Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Gottfredson's November 3, 2008 delegation on the same topic, IDA 462.
