A. Purpose and Scope


These Guidelines apply only to UCI’s official flag poles:

  • outside Aldrich Hall on the campus;
  • adjacent to the information booth on Medical Center Drive at the medical center;
  • outside the Bren Events Center; and
  • outside the UCI Police Department on campus.

B. Guidelines


  1. The flags of the United States of America, and the State of California (Flags) are the only flags flown on UCI official flagpoles.
  2. The Flags shall be:
    • displayed 24 hours a day;
    • during hours of darkness; and
    • weatherproof and will remain displayed during inclement weather.
  3. The Flags shall be lowered to half-staff only at the direction of the President of the United States or the Governor of the State of California.
  4. The UCI Police Department is responsible for raising and lowering the flags in accordance with the above guidelines and for the care, storage, and replacement of the flags.
